Complete in Christ

Grief and loneliness can lead you to find comfort in worldly things, but it is only in Christ that we can find true comfort and peace.

The things of this world will never satisfy you. They may bring you temporary pleasure, but they will never satisfy the deepest longings of your heart. As a widow, or even someone who struggles with loneliness, I want to encourage you. There is One who can reach into the deepest parts of you and bring peace and true contentment. One thing I did after my husband died was shop. I had no idea what I was doing, but spending money made me feel good. Once it was brought to my attention, it was almost too late. I was in financial trouble, and it took drastic measures to get things back in order.

Another thing I feel is normal when people are grieving and lonely is that they begin looking for someone to fill the emptiness. There is nothing wrong with this, but sometimes we can make it an idol in our lives. You see, I, too, have gotten to a place where it would be nice to have someone to share life with. Only the Lord knows if this is His plan, but one thing I needed to realize was that no person will ever complete me the way He can. It has taken me a long time to realize that it is not being married or being in a relationship that gives my life meaning and purpose. It is in truly knowing Christ and fulfilling His plan. He is more than enough, and anything else is a gift.

"Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me."

- Philippians 4:11-13

Do I still struggle? Of course, some days are easier than others, but when the loneliness hits hard, or the desire for that connection of two hearts beats strong, I remember who I belong to. His love never fails, He will never leave or forsake me, and He is the only true source of peace.

"You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you." - Isaiah 26:3

"If then you who have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on the earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." - Colossians 3:1-3

If you are struggling today, I encourage you to rest in Christ's love for you. He knows the desires of your heart, and in His perfect timing, He will bring things to pass according to His perfect will and plan for your life. He loves you deeply, and now is the time to fall in love with Him all over again. Let Him whisper His love and truth into the deepest recesses of your heart. Be still, and let Him sing over you, His beloved bride!

"And I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. And you shall know the LORD." - Hosea 2:19-20

"The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing." - Zephaniah 3:20

May the Lord bless you in the week to come. May He fill you with Himself and may you delight in His presence. May His love sustain you and may His Word take root in your heart.

God bless

Sarah
